Home MenuWatershed Protection
Certain areas within and outside of the City of Albemarle are impacted by the Public Water Supply Watershed. Because the public health, safety, and welfare are first and foremost, no activity or land use which threatens water quality is allowed within the watershed.
Development in these areas is subject to design requirements that affect the density and location of development activity.
The Albemarle, NC Code of Ordinances regulating Watershed Areas was enacted on June 24, 1993. Developments that existed prior to the enactment of this ordinance are exempt of these requirements. However, any expansion to that existing development is subject to the Watershed Ordinance.
