All building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits for work within City of Albemarle limits are administered by Stanly County Central Permitting Department.
The Central Permitting Department enables citizens to apply for and obtain required permits quickly and easily in one location. The Central Permitting Department can answer any question you may have about fees and license requirements.
Building Permits
If you are needing to pull a building permit, you must first complete a City of Albemarle Coordination Form.
This form allows both Zoning and the Fire Marshal (if applicable) to review the project for compliance with applicable City ordinances and Fire Code.
Once the form has been reviewed and approved, it will be sent back to the applicant so that they may pull the building permit at Stanly County Central Permitting.
Do these steps:
- Download and print the City of Albemarle Coordination Form
- Complete the applicant portion of the Form
- Put the scope of work in the description of activities box
- Sign as the applicant on page 2
Then submit the form:
- You may send a scan of your completed Form via email to the Zoning Administrator
- Or bring the completed Form to the Planning and Development Services Office located at City Hall
Please note: Review and approval of the Coordination Form may require more time if the application is commercial, requires plan review, or if the form is submitted incomplete.
Plan Reviews
- For projects requiring a plan review, plans can be submitted to Stanly County Central Permitting.
- Fire alarm or sprinkler plans may be submitted via email to the Office of the Fire Marshal, Robert Wilhoit.
Once plans are submitted to Stanly County Central Permitting, they will forward the plans to the City of Albemarle for Zoning, Fire Code and Utility review.
They will also send plans to Stanly County Building Inspections for Building Code review.
Applicants may receive comments for revision and approval from both Stanly County and The City of Albemarle.
After all parties have reviewed and approved the plans, The City will issue an approval letter and ask that a City Coordination Form be completed so that building permits can be issued at Stanly County Central Permitting.
