The City of Albemarle Public Housing Department operates both a Public Housing Program as well as a Housing Choice Voucher Program also known as Section 8.

The City of Albemarle Department of Public Housing is not currently accepting applications for the Public Housing Program. Check back on this website for information about when the applications will be accepted.

Public Housing Program

City of Albemarle Public Housing program offers apartment living to low- and moderate-income families. Rents are based on 30% of occupant family’s adjusted annual income or a flat rate based on apartment’s number of bedrooms. Applicants must pass criminal-background and other background verifications and owe no debts to any public housing agency.

Housing Sites

Elizabeth Heights, located near the downtown area of Albemarle, provides one bedroom units for single or elderly families.

Amhurst Gardens, located near business highway 24-27 bypass, is a multi-family home site.

• Smoke detectors
• Fire extinguisher
• Free water service

Electricity Metering

Apartments are individually metered for electricity at cost. A monthly allotment of electric kilowatt hours is deducted per bedroom size.
