Our Mission
The City of Albemarle Economic Development Department is responsible for developing and improving the economy of the entire City to the benefit of all residents of the City. The primary duties of the department include:
New Business & Industry Recruitment that includes marketing the community and working with prospects interested in locating a business in the City of Albemarle in the following sectors:
- Retail-Commercial
- Housing
- Manufacturing & Distribution
- Back Office & Headquarters
Existing Business & Industry Programs include outreach to our existing businesses in both the Historic Downtown as well as retail commercial businesses along the NC 24/27 Corridor, the US 52 corridor and other areas of the City. The department’s existing industry program includes visits regularly by the Economic Development Director to each industry location. The program’s goal is to visit with and listen to our industry leaders and assist them when and where possible to maintain the jobs and investment at its current numbers but to also assist the company with expansions or issues that impact the local operation.
Economic Development Marketing & Attraction. The Economic Development Director and staff work closely with the Stanly County Economic Development Commission and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) to market and attract new manufacturing, back office, or distribution projects to the community. High paying high tech manufacturing jobs are key to the City’s economic future and growth. The City is currently constructing the Albemarle Business Center (ABC), a 282-acre Class A industrial park that fronts on both NC 24/27 and US 52. When completed, the new park will provide the City a better opportunity to attract new industry to the City and in so doing create new high-paying jobs for residents, add to the City’s tax base, and generate revenue for the City’s electric, water, and sewer utilities.
NC Main Street Program
The City of Albemarle is a North Carolina Main Street Community and takes pride in the Historic Downtown District and preserving old Albemarle while welcoming new business and industry to become part of the Albemarle business family. The City is affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation Main Street Center through the North Carolina Main Street program. The purpose of the Main Street program is to encourage economic revitalization through historic preservation.

The City and the ADDC have a joint working agreement where day-to-day operations of the non-profit are conducted by City staff members.
The City and ADDC work together to create and implement a program of work to support downtown businesses and attract new business and visitors to the downtown. The ADDC owns and maintains three parks in Downtown Albemarle and is responsible for being the lead or a major partner in all of the City’s downtown events and initiatives.
