Effective January 1, 2024 the City of Albemarle will be changing the efficiency standards for new Heat
Pumps. Electric Water Heaters will remain the same until further notice. This change is due to the DOE
changing from SEER to SEER2. The new minimum efficiency for heat pumps is 15.2 SEER2 to qualify
for the rebate.

 The rebate amounts are as follows:  Existing Home New Construction  New Construction
 Heat Pump (15.2 – 17.1 SEER2)
 $300.00  $400.00
 (17.2+ SEER2)  $400.00  $400.00
 (Geothermal)  $500.00  $500.00
 Electric Water Heater (30 gallon or larger)  $150.00  $150.00

Heat Pump criteria:

  • Minimum capacity of 1 ton and maximum of 5 tons
  • Minimum 15.2 SEER2
  • Multiple units installed at one location by one owner are each eligible
  • Both package heat pump systems and split-system heat pumps are eligible
  • Only City of Albemarle electric residential customers are eligible
  • *An on-site visit by a City of Albemarle employee is required prior to rebate issuance

Electric Water Heater criteria:

  • Must be 30 gallon or larger
  • Unit must be all electric
  • Only City of Albemarle electric residential customers are eligible

A customer may be denied under these and/or other conditions determined by the City:

  • Incomplete application
  • Application not received within 60 days of installation
  • No copy of dated sales invoice
  • Manufacturer documentation of efficiency ratings not included (AHRI certificate)
