The Historic Resources Commission is an appointed board of City residents who work with the community to preserve the historic nature of the City's downtown area.

The Historic Resources Commission welcomes new members who share our enthusiasm for preserving the City of Albemarle’s heritage.

Before You Build

If you are planning to make exterior modifications to a property within the Local Historic District, you must first obtain a Certificate of Appropriateness.

Some modifications can be considered minor works and be approved administratively.

All major works must be considered for approval by the Historic Resources Commission.

  1. See if your property is located in the Local Historic District
  2. Download the Certificate of Appropriateness Application
  3. Access the Historic District Design Standards

Your Participation is Welcome!

For upcoming meeting dates, please see the Historic Resources Commission Calendar.
