What is a “Memory Tree?”

A “Memory Tree” is an opportunity to honor or memorialize a person or celebrate a special occasion by placing a newly-planted tree in a City of Albemarle park. A plaque will be placed at the base of the tree that indicates for whom or why the tree is placed.

Where are “Memory Trees” placed and designated?

Memory Tree PlaqueThe placement of a “Memory Tree” can be made in most City of Albemarle parks.   These parks include City Lake Park, Hearne Park, Montgomery Park, Morehead Park, Peele Park, Rock Creek Park; and at the E.E. Waddell Community Center. A 6” x 6” cast aluminum plaque is set in concrete at the base of the tree noting that the tree is placed “in honor of” or “in memory of” a person or special occasion.

Who cares for the Tree, and what is the cost?

The Parks staff of Albemarle Parks and Recreation will plant, water, fertilize, and care for the tree until it is well established (usually about one year). The cost for placement of a “Memory Tree” is $250. This includes a 4’ to 6’ tree, planting, water, fertilization, and care until the tree is established (usually about a year), and a plaque listing the name of the person being memorialized or honored.
