The City of Albemarle is served by Mayor Ronnie Michael and seven council members. Council meetings are held the first and third Mondays of each month at 6:30pm in the Albemarle City Hall Council Chambers at 144 North 2nd Street Albemarle, North Carolina.

David Hunt was elected in 2022 to represent District 2. Hunt was born and raised in the City of Albemarle. He graduated from Albemarle High School in 1989.

Hunt attended Pfeiffer College and graduated from Stanly Community College with an associate degree in Criminal Justice. He went on to serve the City of Albemarle during a 30-year career with the Albemarle Police Department. 

He is currently employed at Stanly Community College as the Training Coordinator for law enforcement in-service training. Hunt is married and has three children.
