The City of Albemarle Planning Board consists of nine members and three alternate members, all city residents. All members are appointed to Planning Board by the City of Albemarle's City Council. It is the duty of the Planning Board to prepare, amend, and revise a comprehensive plan for the physical development of the city; prepare and recommend to the City Council ordinances and amendments promoting orderly development of the City; determine whether proposed developments conform to the principles and requirements of the City's comprehensive plan; and any other duties which may lawfully be assigned to it.

The types of hearings that the Planning Board considers are variances, appeals, map amendments, text amendments and major subdivisions. To learn more about these types of cases, please visit our Applications & Fees section of the website.
